My Easter holiday

The weather was perfect! I got up early in morning, took the nephew to the city.

We went for a walk around the Elizabeth Bay and Double Bay to the east of Kings Cross viewing many lovely boats and flying birds. Then we eated bagels with cream cheese in the little park where I found a park bench, watched the local person running with strollers and walking their dogs in the park, children running rampage around that area, climbing up and down that play-facilities. My nephew was soon one of them.

After wandering the city, eating the cheese pizza and doing some window-shoping in the city we catched the train back home.

It was a relaxing day in Sydney.

My first Holiday in Sydney

The first Sunday I’ve been here in Sydney was really excited. I have been up north Sydney with my mother, my sister and my nephew. First we headed down to the city with the train then walked along the street to the crowded wharf. We took the ferry to the Mainly where I had never been before. On the big ferry I saw the Sydney Bridge and Sydney Opera House in front of me, so near and so dear, eclipse all the images I saw in the postcard or TV commercials.

There is a carousel outside the Mainly wharf. It is the children’s most lovable game which immediately attracted the attention of my 6-year-old nephew. He soon climbed up the horse and rotated with it. Then we did a lot of walking around the beach and on the way back we stopped in a restaurant for grabing some seafood beside the beach. We enjoyed the sunshine and the seafood. By eating we watched a lot of young people surfing in the waves and the children building their sand castles.

It was very nice just being out in the sun, and smelling the fresh air from the deep blue ocean. That is the true smell of the beach.

comment on "The castle"

I think that the Kerrigans are the most amazing, caring and loving family in this world.

I like the Dale who is the simple and homour characterisation. This character brought us the laughter througout the whole movie. The character Dale represented a positive attitude about the life as we will fight for our rights. The movie teaches us to be happy with what we’ve got and fight for what is ours and take pride in achieving our goals. In my country – if the government attempted the compulsory acquisition of our house to developer the some business center or the infrastructure, we have to move out of our house with the relativ low settlement which is less than required.

This movie let me aware of how lucky the aussie has been compared to other developing country residents whose “castles” could be taken away anytime..........

Why is bundeena worth visiting?

There is one of the most beautiful beach and forest in the world. The sights in bundeena are best seen from the waters. The travellers can take a ferry ride from Cronulla to Bundeena and the ferry ride will have you enjoyed all throughout.

For a place surrounded by water, fishing and picknicking are the easiest way to relax. Bonnie Vale picnic grounds is one of the most mesmerizing spot to take children to, all picnic supplies are easily available in the vicinity.

By visiting Jibbon Point, you will find Aboriginal rock engravings, made by Dharawal, from over 5000 years ago are preserved in perfect condition.

In Bundeena we can also enjoy floating in water by hiring a canoe to explore the waterways in and around bundeena.

Most travellers enjoy taking a walk amongst many hiking trails. Some will take you to the very edge of the cliff where you will not only be able to see the ocean, but also the whales swimming in it during season time, while some others will lead you through a forest. You can also take the Bundeena-Maianbar Heritage self-guided walk which tells a unique story of the region’s astounding flora and fauna as well as its wildlife.

We traverllers can also enjoy a bushwalk in the Royal National park, which is the oldest park in the world after the Yellowstone Park in the US. Perfect for a group adventure as well as for a solitary walk, this park will give us the perfect opportunity to soak in the flora and fauna of the region.

Bundeena is just under one hour’s drive from the Sydney central business district and with lovely cafes, accommodation galore, the famous Art Trail. It is the perfect place for a day out or even a weekend getaway.

My favorite special dish

My favorite special dish is fried rice with prawns and squid. Before cooking I need to prepare ginger, salt, pepper, soy sauce, oyster sauce, olive oil, prawns, squid, peas, carrot cut to small pieces.

Firstly I will mix the soy sauce, oyster sauce , sugar, and Chinese rice wine in a bowl.

Heat a pot of water till boiling over a high heat, add the squid for 10 minutes. Put it into a big bowl, let it dry and reserve. Then add fresh cut carrot pieces to the boiling water for 5 minutes, then put it together with cooked squid.

Heat a big frying pan with the olive oil till hot, add the onion, pepper and ginger then stir fry for 30 seconds, then put the prawns into the pan, stir them. Then pour the mixed soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, and Chinese rice wine into the pan, meantime add the fresh peas, cooked carrots, reserved squid and cooked rice to the pan. Stir fry them altogether for a couple of minutes till the sauce totally mixed with the rice peas prawns and squids.

This dish is easy to prepare and cook which costs me only 30 minutes, and then I can eat it as dinner by the next two days. It’s special for me, because I learned it from my mother. When I went to the high school, all the students took the homemade lunch to school, because there was no cafeteria or canteen in high school. My mother always cooked the fried rice with prawns, eggs and peas for my lunch. It's not only a special dish but also a special memory for me.

About me

I’m Catherine, from Shanghai China. I came here three months ago and joined this course at the end of the April. I’ve been learned English for many years, therefore it’s a shame that my English is still not getting some significant improvement. I’m glad that I begin to study English again by attending this course and happy to make some new friends in the class.

I like traveling, sitting in the coffee house and watching people walking up and down. I hope I can get me involved in this new country- Australian soon.
